Hips Don't Lie

I promise you that I listened to all sorts of great music (and NPR) on my drive from West Chester to Washington, D.C. today, but the lyric that keeps sticking in my head is this one:
"Hush, girl. Shut your lips.
Do the Helen Keller and talk with your hips."
Terrible, right? Ter--ri--ble. The song is called Don't Trust Me from the group 3Oh!3, and I keep hearing it on the radio. (Here's the video.) I wish it weren't so damn catchy. (And I wish it didn't also remind me of one of my favorite South Park episodes, Helen Keller! The Musical.)

Helen, I'm sorry that I keep reciting that lyric. To make it up to you, I'm considering visiting your birthplace in Tuscumbia, Alabama. It's a bit off the path from my drive to New Orleans, but right now, I can't find anything else better to do in Alabama. And at least this will assuage my guilt.

In case you're wondering what else I listened to on the first leg of the XXX-Country Tour...
  • Go! Team - Needed something peppy and cinematic to kick off the Tour.
  • George Michael - Just one notch up in the iPod artist list. With thousands of miles to travel, I assure you that no album will get skipped, least of all George Michael.
  • Terry Gross interview with Woody Allen - He's got a new movie out, but the interview plays like it's from 30 years ago -- same humor, same existential debates, same ol' Woody Allen. Bo-ring. I was more than happy to let Garmin GPS Lady talk right over the interview.
